At the edge of Paimus lies a great stretch of dark, mysterious water.
It is called Moonwater.
During the day it can look almost ordinary.
But when night falls and the moon rises…
everything changes.
Moonlight spreads across the surface.
Tiny lights appear beneath the water.
And sometimes enormous shadows move silently through the depths.
Long ago, animals began telling Tales about something living there.
Some claimed they saw a long neck rising from the water.
Others saw only ripples.
Or a shadow.
Or two enormous eyes disappearing beneath the surface.
Eventually the creature became a legend.
Its name was Nessy the Serposaur.
But Nessy may not be Moonwater’s greatest mystery.
Far beneath the surface are shapes that look strangely like…
ruins.
What lies down there?
How long has it been there?
And did Nessy know?
Perhaps somewhere among Owlix’s oldest Tales…
there is a clue.
There is something strange about Nessy’s legend.
Most sightings happened at night.
And almost all of them…
beneath a full moon.
Sometimes animals camping beside Moonwater wake to find enormous circles spreading across an otherwise perfectly still surface.
Sometimes they hear a splash far out in the darkness.
And sometimes…
something glides silently past beneath them.
But the strangest stories concern the ruins.
Explorers have tried to reach them.
They follow the shapes beneath the water…
deeper…
and deeper…
until suddenly the ruins seem to disappear.
Yet on nights when the moon is brightest, they can sometimes be seen again.
And more than one explorer has claimed that just before the ruins vanished…
Nessy appeared.
Was she following them?
Was she trying to frighten them away?
Or was she trying…
to show them something?
Owlix has never been certain.
Because the oldest Tales of Moonwater don’t describe Nessy as something to fear.
They describe something very different.
Something curious.
Something misunderstood.
And perhaps the greatest mystery of Moonwater isn’t whether Nessy existed.
Perhaps it is…
what Nessy knew.
