Codger the Owlix

Inside Greatroot lives Codger the Owlix — keeper of the old Tales and the last living Paimul from long ago.

But Codger hasn’t always looked quite like this.

His story began a very long time ago… before the Greatroot.

Legend has it...

Long, long ago, when Paimuls still lived throughout the land, there lived a young Owlix.

His name was Codger.

Codger was part owl and part phoenix.

From the owl came his lasting knowledge and his love of watching and listening.

From the phoenix came something much more unusual.

Fire.

But Codger’s fire wasn’t like a dragon’s flame.

It didn’t burn trees.

It didn’t scorch the ground.

His fire glowed warm and golden, like the last light of sunset.

Codger spent his days travelling across Paimus.

He visited the mountains.

He flew above the forests.

He rested beside quiet ponds and mysterious waters.

And wherever he went…

Codger explored.

He discovered strange places hidden throughout the land.

Ancient stones standing where no one remembered placing them.

Paths that disappeared into forests.

Ruins whose builders had long been forgotten.

And places even Codger was afraid to explore.

Some had Tales.

Some had legends.

And some…

had only questions.

But wherever Paimuls lived, Codger listened.

He listened to their adventures.

Their mistakes.

Their triumphs.

Their discoveries.

And their Tales.

Then Codger would return home and record everything he could remember.

The Paimuls.

The places.

The mysteries.

And the questions nobody had ever answered.

Years passed.

Then many more.

One by one, the ancient Paimuls disappeared from the land.

Their footsteps faded.

Their homes grew quiet.

Until eventually…

Codger was alone.

And Codger was growing old too.

His golden feathers became dull.

His wings grew tired.

Until one evening, Codger settled among the branches of an ancient tree and watched the sun disappear.

For the first time in his long life, Codger closed his eyes…

and did not open them again.

The forest became silent.

But that wasn’t the end of Codger’s Tale.

In fact…

it was only the beginning.
