Welcome to Paimus

Why is this land called Paimus?

No one living today knows exactly who first gave Paimus its name.

The name is so old that it has been passed from one generation to another for longer than anyone can remember.

But according to the oldest Tales, Paimus was inspired by an ancient word meaning:

“First.”

Some say it was called Paimus because it was one of the first lands.

Others say the name belonged to the extraordinary creatures who lived here first.

Perhaps both stories are true.

What we do know is that those ancient creatures became known as Paimuls…

the creatures of Paimus.

For countless years, they lived throughout the land.

In the forests.

Across the Widewilds.

High among the mountains.

Beside quiet ponds.

And along mysterious waters.

Every region had its own Paimuls.

Every Paimul was different.

And everywhere they lived…

they left something behind.

Sometimes it was a Tale.

Sometimes it was a legend.

Sometimes it was something much harder to explain.

Ancient stones.

Forgotten paths.

Strange ruins hidden beneath forests.

Places high among the mountains that no one remembers building.

And things beneath the waters that have never been fully explored.

Some have been there for so long that even the oldest Tales cannot explain them.

Then the ages passed.

Slowly, the Paimuls became fewer.

Until eventually…

they disappeared.

Today, the forests are filled with ordinary animals.

The ponds still ripple.

The mountains still rise above the clouds.

And Moonwater still shines beneath the moon.

But traces of ancient Paimus remain.

Some can be seen.

Some are hidden.

And some may still be waiting to be discovered.

The ancient Paimuls are gone.

Almost.

Because somewhere at the heart of Paimus stands an enormous ancient tree.

Its name is Greatroot.

And inside that tree lives someone who remembers more about ancient Paimus than anyone else.

But even he…

doesn’t know everything.
